Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby

Young women find themselves facing many questions upon learning they're pregnant. They definitely have a number of decisions to make — and Young Family's Program can make the process much easier by furnishing information, whether through classes, written materials or one-on-one.

Welcoming Your Baby
Classes can ease concerns of mothers-to-be by helping them understand the childbirth process and prepare for the first few months. Information on the process and useful techniques are presented by certified childbirth educators.

The classes, which last six weeks, prepare a mother for labor by teaching:

  • Relaxation and breathing techniques to use during labor, plus other coping mechanisms
  • How your body works during childbirth
  • What to expect at the hospital, including medications available during labor and birth
  • How to make informed decisions about your childbirth
  • Newborn care, including appearance, feeding, and behaviors
  • Tips on breastfeeding successfully and happily

Young Family's Program encourages all our "moms" to bring a support person with them to class. If you don't have someone, call our staff for assistance. We'll try to provide a volunteer labor support person to attend classes with you and help you during labor.

Classes usually begin during your seventh month of pregnancy. Classes cost $45, and financial aid is available to those needing help.

Please register as early as you can in your pregnancy. Classes are held at:
